Lady Lions VB gets sweep at Holland
HOLLAND — The Granger High School varsity volleyball team stayed in contention Tuesday night for the No. 2 playoff seed in 2A-District 26 with a victory at Holland High School. The Lady Lions won in three straight sets over the Lady Hornets, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-15 in the third set to seal the victory. This was the second time this season that Granger has beaten Holland as the Lady Lions won a fiveset affair Sept. 30 at home against the Lady Hornets.
In the pivotal victory for Granger, who has already secured an upcoming playoff berth, the Lady Lions were again led by its powerful senior duo of Jaila Rollie and Tessa Burton. Rollie had a match-high 10 kills and served up four aces, while Burton did it all for Granger with nine kills, nine aces, 15 assists and 11 digs against Holland.
Sophomores Krista Hutka and Abigail Crouch had four kills apiece, senior Clarissa Miller had 11 assists and the junior duo of Sofia Bernal and Marissa Hall had 19 and 17 serves received, respectively.
The Lady Lions (15-16 overall, 3-3 in district) will again be in action Saturday afternoon when Granger hosts current No. 2 seed Thorndale High School in its final home district match. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Lions in a five-set thriller Oct. 3 in the last meeting between the two teams in Thorndale.
