Rams on the road again Friday

The St. Mary’s Catholic School varsity football team will remain on the road Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. as the Rams will travel to Georgetown to take on Grace Academy. This upcoming district game on Friday night between the Rams and Griffins will be held at Tippit Middle School.

Last Friday night against Methodist Children’s Home on the road up in Waco, St. Mary’s went up against a very good team and was defeated 68-20 by the opposing Bulldogs. Despite the loss, the Rams got a solid showing from junior running back Ethan Lively as he ran for 74 yards and one touchdown on just nine carries.

Although Rams junior quarterback Kolbe Barta completed just 3-of-13 pass attempts for 76 yards, two of those completions went for touchdown passes of 40 yards and 26 yards to Lively.

This week, St. Mary’s enters its Friday game against Grace Academy with a 2-4 record and a 0-3 mark in district play.

The opposing Griffins are 2-6 on the season and are also in search of their first win in district play with a 0-2 record after blowout losses to Arlington St. Paul’s Preparatory Academy and Methodist Children’s Home. Grace Academy picked up its second win of the season last Friday with a 32-25 victory at home against non-district foe New Braunfels Thunder.
