Taylor, Hutto take on Camp Tejas

GIDDINGS — The Taylor High School and Hutto High School varsity cross country teams were in action on Friday, Sept. 29 at the annual Camp Tejas Invitational meet hosted by Giddings High School.

TAYLOR DUCKS AND LADY DUCKS

The Ducks had runners compete in the boys’ 5,000-meter run for 4A and below and did quite well on Friday.

In a field of 72 entries, Taylor senior Emilio Arenas had a great outing as his time of 18:35.00 earned him a medal in seventh place. The senior duo of Giovanni Aguilar and Brandon Aguilar finished in the middle of the pack as Giovanni placed 36th with a mark of 20:14.00 and Brandon was right behind him in 37th place with a time of 20:16.00. Ducks senior Andrew Cortez placed 45th with a mark of 20:47.00, while sophomore Antonio Estrada came in 46th place with a time of 20:49.00.

As for the Lady Ducks, their sophomore duo had yet another solid showing for Taylor in the girls’ twomile run. In a field of 81 runners, Aubriana Alderete placed 16th with a mark of 13:57.00 with teammate Zari Thompson a few seconds behind in 22nd place with a time of 14:04.00.

Taylor will next compete on Thursday, Oct. 12 in the District 22-4A Championships meet held at the same Camp Tejas course with the boys competing at 8 a.m. and the girls will run at 8:30 a.m. afterward.

Taylor will compete against runners from Giddings, Austin Achieve High School, Caldwell High School, La Grange High School, Manor New Tech High School and Smithville High School.

HUTTO HIPPOS AND LADY HIPPOS

The Lady Hippos had a few standout runners in the 5A-6A girls’ 5,000meter run on Friday as sophomore Adia Majtyka came in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish at 20:48.00.

Hutto senior Alyza Delayo placed 22nd with a time of 22:07.00, while freshman Courtney Drain finished near the middle of the pack of 77 runners in 36th place with a mark of 23:18.00.

For the boys in the 5A-6A run of 5,000 meters, Hutto junior Isaiah Gosch was the top runner for the Hippos in a field of 79 entries in 24th place with a time of 17:37.00.

Hutto will be in action at 8 a.m. on Oct. 12 in the District 12-6A Championships meet held at Northeast Metropolitan Park in Pflugerville. Hutto will compete against runners from Pflugerville Weiss High School, Bryan High School, Copperas Cove High School, Harker Heights High School, Midway High School and Temple High School.
