Lady Ducks VB victorious over Smithville

The Taylor High School varsity volleyball team got the job done last Friday at home as the Lady Ducks defeated Smithville High School. In four sets, Taylor added another victory under Lady Ducks first-year head coach Rylee Davis: 25-10, 22-25, 25-14 and a gritty 25-21 win in the fourth set to seal the deal over Smithville.

Despite a dominant first set for Taylor that had almost everything go its way, the Lady Ducks were brought back down to earth a bit in the second set as the Lady Tigers played very hard and were able to capitalize on a lot of Taylor errors. However, Taylor played much better volleyball in the third set and was able to hold off Smithville in the final set. The duo of senior Hannah Wamble and junior Haley Harms took over this match as the opposing Lady Tigers could not stop them. Wamble and Harms each had a whopping 17 kills, while senior Ansley Reed was also a factor at the net with six kills.

Lady Ducks senior Camryn Nunamaker and sophomore Makenna Watson each had a great match and made plays all over the court.

Nunamaker finished with a match-high 20 assists and 15 digs, while Watson had 29 serves received and a team-high 25 digs.

With the win over Smithville, the Lady Ducks improved to 23-12 overall and now have a 5-1 record within District 22-4A in second place behind Giddings High School.

The Lady Ducks have matches on Tuesday at Austin Achieve High School and at 5 p.m. on Friday vs. Manor New Tech High School in what should be easy victories but the schedule down the stretch will be tough for Taylor after this week. Taylor has remaining matches on Oct. 10 at La Grange High School, Oct. 17 hosting Giddings, Oct.

20 hosting Caldwell High School and Oct. 24 at Smithville.
