County to hold open houses over bond elections

Taylor residents seeking to learn more about the nearly $900 million Williamson County bond election will have their chance this week.

An informational open house meeting will take place Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Williamson County Expo Center. The meeting is open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Attendees can learn more about the upcoming bond election and proposed projects at the open house. The bond election will take place on the Nov. 7 general election.

On the ballot, voters will decide on $825 million for road projects and $59 million for park projects. The vote will take place Nov. 7, and will list both figures as individual propositions.

Approval of the roads bond would allow the court to sell bonds for roads, highways and bridges. Some of the potential projects listed in the proposition would affect Taylor, such as projects on Chandler Road, East Wilco Highway and Corridor A-2.

If the parks bond passes, the court can sell bonds for park and recreational purposes, pedestrian trails and bike trails. One specifically listed Taylor project is putting a cover on the west side of the Expo Center.

The meetings will be come-and-go events where the public is welcome to review exhibits and ask questions of county staff. There will be no formal presentation.

County officials will have the same opportunity Oct. 10 at Hallie Jester Annex in Round Rock and Oct. 19 at the Williamson County Cedar Park Annex in Cedar Park. The county held an open house in Georgetown Monday.

The open houses at those locations will take place during the same time slot.

Early voting runs from Oct. 23 through Nov. 3. Election information is available at the election page on the county’s website.

The Commissioners’ Court approved the order to call the bond election during its meeting Aug. 8.
