Camacho rising as aspiring Taylor barber

Eric Camacho has his sights set on a promising career. The Taylor High School junior, who starts on the offensive line at guard for the Ducks varsity football team, is certainly making a name for himself as a student, athlete and aspiring barber.

“It was just talking about and actually thinking about something I really enjoyed doing in the future,” Camacho said. “Something that just really interested me to learn and try to do.”

Camacho has the full support of his family, friends, teammates and coaches in Taylor with his career choice as he just started cutting people’s hair late in his sophomore year.

“They just try to support me as much as they can financially and mentally,” Camacho said. “They tell me what they think is best in that aspect.”

Camacho considers Salvador Tinajero as his mentor who got him very interested in choosing a career path towards becoming a barber.

“He pretty much just started cutting my hair one day and he then started offering to teach me,” Camacho said of Tinajero. “He then started to show me everything I needed to know and I just kept going with it.”

Camacho takes pride in cutting his teammates’ and coaches’ hair throughout the week. He has given Taylor first-year head coach Earven Flowers a haircut and takes care of his fellow offensive linemen Syris Corley, Hesston Cranor, Ernest Alderete as well as Nikolas Garza-Walker and noted teammates like wide receiver Jordan Pickerill, wide receiver Jacob Mikulencak, quarterback Joshua Mikulencak and others.

Once he completes high school, Camacho plans to go to barber school and is still looking into different locations at this time. He wants to open up his own shop one day locally or even venture out into the San Antonio or Dallas areas.

Be sure to catch Camacho and his football teammates in action on Homecoming at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 6 as the Ducks host San Antonio Davenport High School in the district opener.
