CAMERON — The Granger High School cross country programs both ran on Saturday, Sept. 23 in the Dale Keen Invitational meet hosted by Cameron High School.

GRANGER LADY LIONS AND LIONS

It was a solid showing for Granger as the Lady Lions had runners really step up in the varsity two-mile run in a field of 46 entries. Granger freshman Brooklyn Gaswint was superb for the Lady Lions as her time of 13:56.40 placed her in sixth. Lady Lions freshman Eva Ramirez also medaled in 10th place with a mark of 14:21.50, while freshman teammate Carli Cadena finished at 15:30.50 and placed 20th.

For the Granger boys, the Lions had two runners place in the top 30 of the varsity threemile as junior Isaac Campos placed 26th with a time of 19:39.20 while sophomore teammate Kye Welles came in 28th place with a mark of 19:49.20 in a field of 64 runners.

The Lions and Lady Lions will now have their final regular-season meet this Saturday morning at the Troy Trojan Invitational.

THRALL TIGERETTES AND TIGERS

Thrall junior Sarah Laurence continued to shine over the weekend in the varsity girls’ two-mile run as the standout runner’s time of 13:42.10 got her a medal in fourth place. Tigerettes freshman Kayla Pouncey also cracked the top 20 with a mark of 15:11.90 in 16th place, while senior Avery Koonce came in 22nd place with a time of 15:45.70.

As for the Thrall boys in the varsity three-mile run, senior Steven Walker placed 40th with a mark of 20:53.20 while Tigers sophomore Alejandro Estrada also placed in the top 50 with a time of 21:23.20 for 47th place.

Thrall will have one more regular-season varsity meet on Sept. 30 at the Shiner Invitational. Granger and Thrall will both compete on Saturday, Oct. 7 in the District 27-2A meet held at Cameron Middle School.
