Rams fall on the road
MINERAL WELLS – The St. Mary’s Rams hit the road for the first time this season, but came home with a 61-41 loss to the Community Christian Warriors.
The first half saw the Rams fall behind early. With 3:24 left in the half, the Warriors led 21-7. A stop by St.
Mary’s on a fourth and 10 gave the Rams momentum. A 20-yard pass by Brady Altman followed by a 25-yard run put the Rams on the Warrior’s 20.
Steven Reyes picked up 19 yards on two rushes to get St. Mary’s in striking distance.
Altman punched it in on a one-yard run. The extra point was no good, which put the score at 21-13.
On the kickoff, the Warriors went the length of the field for a touchdown, pushing their lead to 28-13 with 55 seconds left in the half.
Ethan Lively returned the favor with a 55-yard return for a touchdown.
The extra point was good, and the Rams trailed 28-20 at halftime.
In the second half, St. Mary’s tried to make a comeback early, but the Warriors’ defense was able to hold the Rams.
Community Christian went on to increase their lead with two touchdowns in the third. To start the final quarter, the Warriors scored quickly, but the Rams answered back to make it 49-27.
St. Mary’s was able to score two more touchdowns in the fourth, but the Warriors offense was too much, adding two more scores to seal the victory.
St. Mary’s is off next week, and return to action Oct. 13 in Waco against Methodist Children’s Home.
