ter Hutto took a 27-17 lead into halftime

ter Hutto took a 27-17 lead into halftime, the Midway offense was almost unstoppable in the second half of this game. However, when Midway got within 27-24, the Hippos responded as Chavies broke a huge 50-yard touchdown run to extend the lead back to 34-24 in favor of Hutto with 10:19 left in the third quarter.

While Midway’s offense took advantage of its opportunities and marched the ball downfield for scoring drives against Hutto’s defense, the Hippos could not capitalize on their opportunities in the second half. Hutto was haunted by back-to-back drives in which the offense fumbled the ball inside the Panthers’ 20-yard line.

With the Hippos eventually down 45-34, Hammond kept his team in the game as he scored from four yards out on a scramble on fourthand- goal and successfully ran in the two-point conversion with just over two minutes left in regulation. The Hippos’ defense needed to make a stop on fourth down around midfield with roughly one minute to play but the Midway quarterback was able to get a first done, sealing a heartbreaking 4542 loss at home Hutto (1-4 overall record and 0-1 in District 12-6A play) will look to right the ship as they head into a much-needed bye week. The Hippos will be back on the road at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 as Hutto takes on Harker Heights High School.
