Ducks get redemption on Cougar Homecoming

JARRELL – Last year the Jarrell Cougars came to Taylor and spoiled the Ducks 2022 Homecoming. This year Taylor returned the favor with a 62-35 victory this past Friday, Sept. 22.

The Cougars drew first blood with a 1-yard touchdown punch in, but that would be their only lead of the night. On the Ducks’ ensuing drive, Josh Mikulencak connected with his brother Jacob Mikulencak on a 12-yard passing score to knot the game at 7-7 with 6:31 to play in the opening quarter.

Following a fumble recovery by Ayden Gutierrez, the Ducks found paydirt through the air again when Josh Mikulencak connected with Jackson Meller to put the Ducks up 13-7.

The Ducks scoring hit full throttle in the second quarter. Andrias “Tutu” Fisher ripped off a huge 62yard touchdown scamper to extend the Ducks lead to 20-7 with 11:37 left.

The Cougars answered Fisher’s score with a 22-yard touchdown pass to pull within six. Taylor then followed up with an answer. A short pass to Meller went 50 yards to the house to keep the Ducks comfortably ahead 27-14 with 4:29 to play in the half.

In the final 35 seconds of the quarter, the Ducks would add two more scores. Josh Mikulencak connected with Jordan Pickerill for a 12-yard score. Following a fumble recovery by the Ducks, Josh Mikulencak would connect again with Pickerill from 28 yards out to put Taylor well ahead 41-14 heading into the break.

The Ducks opened the third frame with the ball. Josh Mikulencak connected with Pickerill for a third time to make the score 48-14 with 10:20 to play in the quarter.

The Cougars would not go away, as they made it a 48-21 game with a 58-yard touchdown pass. At the 5:50 mark of the third quarter, Fisher found paydirt a second time on a 24-yard scamper to put the Ducks ahead 55-21.

The Cougars continued to fight.

After an unsportsmanlike penalty on the Ducks, Jarrell scored on a 19-yard pass to make the contest 55-28.

As the third quarter came to a close, Marcus Jackson collected an interception that led to Taylor’s final score. With 10:47 to play in the fourth quarter, Kyetrevius Sanford punched the ball in from six yards out to put the Ducks up 62-28.

The Cougars added a late touchdown with a 42-yard run, but were left licking their wounds on Homecoming.

Josh Mikulencak finished the night with six touchdown passes as the Ducks were clicking on all cylinders throughout the game.

“I can’t remember the last time we scored 60 points, not since I’ve been here. It’s going like we thought it was going to go. We’ve been waiting all year to return the favor on Homecoming,” Taylor head coach Earven Flowers said.

“We’re fixing things on offense.

We’ve got a few things to fix on de-
