The Taylor High School varsity volleyball team handled business at home last Friday as the Lady Ducks won in three straight sets against a solid La Grange High School squad: 25-22, 25-13 and 25-22 to get the victory.
The first set was back-and-forth to start as both teams were playing very well. However, Taylor went on a run and was up 17-10 and looking to cruise but the Lady Leopards kept things interesting as La Grange rallied to get within a 22-24 deficit. The Lady Ducks won the first set because of a service error by the Lady Leopards.
Taylor looked very strong in the second set as the Lady Ducks kept the Lady Leopards at bay for a vast majority of the set, clinching the 25-13 win to go up 2-0.
La Grange refused to quit and was eager to force a fourth set but Taylor did not budge and again held off the Lady Leopards, securing a Lady Duck match victory in straight sets to improve to a perfect 3-0 mark in 4A-District 22 play.
The Lady Ducks were again led by the trio of senior Hannah Wamble, junior Haley Harms and senior Ansley Reed as the opposing Lady Leopards did not have much of an answer to consistently stop them at the net. Wamble and Harms had 10 kills each, while Reed added eight kills of her own on the night. Taylor senior Camryn Nunamaker and sophomore Peyton Wamble were great at setting up their teammates all evening with 16 assists and 10 assists, respectively, while sophomore Makenna Watson again was all over the floor for the Lady Ducks with a match-high 25 serves received and 13 digs.
Now with a 21-10 overall record, as of Monday, the Lady Ducks under first-year head coach Rylee Davis sit at No. 15 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association volleyball poll for 4A.
Following Taylor’s non-district showdown at home Tuesday night vs. 4A No. 21 Jarrell High School, the Lady Ducks will go back to district play at 4:30 p.m. this Friday on the road against Giddings High School.
