PFLUGERVILLE — Taylor High School varsity cross country was back in action on Sept. 8 as the Ducks and Lady Ducks both took part in the 2023 Pflugerville ISD Cross Country Invitational held at Northeast Metropolitan Park.
The boys competed in the 5000-meter run for 1A-4A in a field of 53 runners and came in third place as a team. Taylor was led by a great showing from Emilio Arenas, who placed sixth on Friday morning with a time of 18:28.70.
Joel Lopez also finished in the top 25 as he came in 18th place with a mark of 20:02.90, while teammate Andrew Cortez came placed 25th with a time of 20:33.10.
Although the Lady Ducks only entered two runners in a field of 63 entries in the girls’ two-mile run, both of them did very well. Zari Thompson led the way for Taylor in 1A-4A as she placed 12th with a time of 13:41.10, while Lady Ducks teammate Aubriana Alderete had a mark of 15:04.20 that placed her 30th. The Ducks and Lady Ducks will next compete on Thursday, Sept. 14 as Taylor heads to the Salado Invitational held at Tenroc Ranch.
