AUSTIN — The Granger High School girls and boys cross country teams competed on Sept. 9 in the St. Michael’s Invitational at the Gilbert Tuhabonye Trail in Austin.
The Lady Lions’ varsity runners competed against much larger schools in the girls’ two-mile junior varsity division and did very well.
In a large field of 138 runners who completed the two-mile run, Granger had three Lady Lions runners place in the top 30 on Saturday: freshman Brooklyn Gaswint in 11th with a time of 14:54.00, freshman Eva Ramirez in 14th with a mark of 15:03.00 and freshman Keeleigh Peace in 27th with a time of 15:28.00. Lady Lions freshman Carli Cadena finished in the middle of the pack as her mark of 17:08.00 was good for 68th place.
As for the Lions, they competed in the varsity division against big schools in the boys’ 5000-meter run in a field of 138 entries. Granger freshman Adrian Lizardo placed 82nd with a mark of 21:18.00, freshman Wyatt Sanchez in 117th place with a time of 24:01.00 and sophomore Evan Youngblood in 129th place with a mark of 26:48.00.
Granger varsity cross country will next compete on Saturday, Sept. 16 in the Lago Vista Cross Country Invitational.
