HUTTO - It was another tough outing for the Hutto High School varsity football team on Sept. 8 as the Hippos were defeated 57-27 on the road against 6A powerhouse Cibolo Steele High School. For the third week in a row, the Hippos will play on the road as Hutto travels at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday to take on the Rockets of Converse Judson High School.

The Steele Knights dominated the first half behind junior standout quarterback Chad Warner, who threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns on just 11-of-13 completion attempts vs. Hutto.

Hutto’s offense did not get going until the second half when the game was already far out of reach but the Hippos did put up some solid numbers offensively in the box score.

Hippos senior star quarterback Will Hammond, who threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns on the night and also rushed for one, has eye-opening numbers through three games this season as he has thrown for a whopping 1,351 yards through the air, 12 touchdowns and only two interceptions. Hammond has also rushed for 243 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.

In addition to Hammond, fellow senior wide receiver Alex Green has continued to be very impressive for Hutto with 26 catches for a stellar 608 yards and five touchdown receptions.

This season has been a struggle to start the season for Judson as the Rockets have lost their first three games and have been outscored 92-31 during that span.

If the Hutto defense is able to put together a solid performance and the offense continues to succeed, this should result in a key victory for the Hippos as they return on Sept. 22 for their first home game in a month next week for Homecoming vs. Waco Midway High School.
