GRANGER - The Granger High School varsity football team is coming off a heartbreaking last-second 24-21 loss on Sept. 8 at Holland High School in a matchup of two great teams. Under head coach Stephen Brosch, the Lions will return home at 7 p.m. this Friday night for the first time since Aug. 25 as Granger is set to host Goldthwaite High School.

Although the visiting Goldthwaite Eagles finished with a dismal 0-10 record last season, they are much improved in 2023. Following a close 28-14 season-opening loss at Crawford High School, the Eagles have won two straight at home with victories over Santo High School (28-19) and Rosebud-Lott High School (40-27).

In order for the Lions to have success at home, they’re going to need to effectively run the football without the services of sophomore running back Caleb Hobratsch, who was unfortunately lost due to a serious leg injury suffered during the first half of the Holland game.

Expect Granger to use its plethora of running backs to get carries with senior Jayven Diaz and senior Isaac Lizardo, while senior quarterback Chase Edwards is effective at scrambling with the ball and is a powerful runner who is known to break tackles.

Edwards also has some weapons outside with senior wide receiver Trae Herrera, senior tight end Thomas Youngblood and senior wide receiver Lucas Matta.

Through three games this season, the Granger team defense has been very good and has forced multiple turnovers.

This should continue on Friday as Granger hosts Goldthwaite for Military and First Responder Night.
