The Taylor High School varsity volleyball team started off District 22-4A play with a bang as the Lady Ducks dominated its home match vs. Austin Achieve High School from start to finish to win in three straight sets: 25-6, 25-7 and 25-7.
This was a victory that came with ease on Sept. 8 as Taylor was able to put this team away very quickly. However, that has not always been the case as the Texas Girls Coaches Association poll No. 20 ranked Lady Ducks (19-10 overall record) had previously let teams hang around.
This was not the case against Achieve as Taylor took care of business throughout the match.
“So far this season, I have been really impressed with their ability to bounce back,” Taylor first-year head coach Rylee Davis said. “They have had a few games where they started behind, and they’ve had a few games where they had a mid-game slump. I can count on my hand the amount of times they weren’t able to come back from it. I think our mentality has been the best improvement I have seen since the beginning of the season so far. Additionally, I think our ball control has really started to pick up. Just knowing that we can control the pace of the game has given them a lot of confidence going into tougher matches.”
Against Achieve, Lady Ducks star outside hitter Hannah Wamble was a dominant force as she led Taylor with a match-high 12 kills while also adding four aces and four digs. Fellow senior setter Camryn Nunamaker had a whopping 23 assists on the night, while junior middle hitter Haley Harms had six kills and senior outside hitter Ansley Reed added four kills of her own.
Following a road district match on Tuesday at Manor New Tech High School, the Lady Ducks will return home at 5 p.m. on Sept. 15 to host La Grange High School.
