Pink hair, golden heart

We have a couple that are regulars where I work. The gentleman, seeing that my hair color was fading and knowing how often I color my hair, posed the question of what color I was going next.

When I told him I wasn’t sure, he showed me a tattoo he had for his mother, then told me she had passed away from breast cancer. He asked me if I would go pink in honor of her.

The next day my hair was pink.

I’m a two time cancer survivor so it hit very close for me. I feel like we all need a little help sometimes. If it comes in a hair color, a smile or a listening ear, it all makes a difference.

I love living in our small, quaint town. Even though it’s growing, we still have our values. Our friends. It’s still home.

Sometimes we make life harder, more complicated, but maybe we need to go back to the basics, maybe it needs to be broken down and simplified. What can I do to help someone else? How can I get outside of myself and make another person happy?

We all have our struggles. We are all fighting battles, but finding happiness and being better people, even from the day before, should be our common goal. We, as humans, are the same. We want love, friendship, compassion. We want to be forgiven for our mistakes and we want to be able to break down our walls so people can see that we are more than our failures, our mistakes.

Courage is keeping on when we don’t want to. It’s smiling for others even when we want to cry. It’s holding the door open even when we are in a hurry.

Courage is getting outside of our comfort zone.

We are all here for a purpose, sometimes it’s the best part of the day when someone just says I love you in their own way.
