HUTTO – The Hutto High School varsity volleyball team showed a lot of grit on Tuesday night as the Lady Hippos won a five-set thriller at home vs. Georgetown East View High School.
Led by junior Isabella Orton, who committed to play collegiately at Auburn University, the Lady Hippos were able to start off on the right foot with a 25-19 victory in the first set.
However, East View came out and played very hard in the next two sets and won 25-13 and 25-18. With Hutto having its back against the wall, the Lady Hippos really needed to grind in the fourth set and they did just that as a back-and-forth affair ended with Hutto winning 25-23 to tie the match at two sets apiece.
The Lady Hippos sealed the deal in the fifth set as they kept the Lady Patriots at bay and won 15-10 for the best-of-five set victory.
In addition to Orton, the Lady Hippos continue to get great production out of the senior duo of Charlize Williams and Cori Babb throughout this season as Hutto capped off the month of August on a very high note.
Under first-year head coach Jessica Martinez, Hutto will have two more non-district games on its schedule: Friday night’s contest at home vs. San Marcos High School and then on the road at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8 against Belton High School.
