THORNDALE – Revenge was very sweet for the Granger High School varsity football team as the Lions were able to go on the road and picked up a commanding 38-7 victory over the Bulldogs of Thorndale High School.

Granger, who fell 36-34 in overtime to Thorndale in last season’s matchup, was able to take control of this year’s game in the second half after leading 14-7 at halftime.

The Lions were able to rack up over 350 yards on offense while the defense was again stellar for the second straight week as they held the Bulldogs to just 193 yards of total offense. In two games so far, Granger has scored a whopping 95 points and allowed just 15 points.

On the night against Thorndale, sophomore running back Caleb Hobratsch had 127 yards rushing with three touchdowns on just eight carries. Granger senior quarterback Chase Edwards had 134 yards passing (along with 63 rushing yards) with touchdown passes to senior tight end Thomas Youngblood and senior wide receiver Isaac Lizardo. Youngblood had three receptions for 103 yards while Lizardo hauled in two catches for 25 yards.

Up next, the Lions (2-0) will make the short drive north on Highway 95 at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 when Granger squares off with Holland High School. The Hornets are also 2-0 with victories over Burton High School (31-14) and Valley Mills High School (43-14) as this should be a great upcoming game between Granger and Holland.
