ERCOT requests conservation this evening

AUSTIN - The Electricity Reliability Council of Texas is asking Texans to conserve electricity use this evening, Aug. 30, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The conservation appeal is due to a high level of unexpected thermal generation outages and forecasted low wind generation, operating reserves for the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas are expected to be low this evening.

Today’s conservation appeal does not indicate ERCOT is experiencing emergency conditions at this time. Current forecasts are showing a potential to enter emergency operations this evening because of a high level of unexpected thermal generation outages and forecasted low wind generation.

ERCOT said in a statement that it will continue to closely monitor conditions throughout the day and will keep the public informed through our communications channels.

Energy-saving tips include raising the thermostat by a couple of degrees, turning off non-essential lights and refraining from using large appliances like a washer or dryer.

The conservation appeal marks the second consecutive day ERCOT has called for Texans to conserve and is the eight time since mid-August.

This summer, ERCOT has set 10 new all-time peak demand records.
