AUSTIN – The Family and Consumer Sciences Teachers Association is pleased to announce the appointment of new members for its 2023-2024 Board of Directors. FCSTAT is the only professional organization dedicated solely to representing family and consumer sciences educators in Texas.
Joining the FCSTAT Board of Directors is Chef Mike Erickson, an FCS teacher for Taylor Independent School District and works at Taylor High School.
The FCSTAT Board of Directors actively promotes and encourages membership with the District, Region, and State. They act as the liaison between FCSTAT members and their respective districts.
Erickson’s role as a board director gives him the experience and professional development that he needs to focus on the FCS leadership, membership, and to advocate on behalf of FCS Professionals.
Erickson is described as a passionate educator and supporter of all things family and consumer sciences in Career and Technical Education. He has helped several board positions in the past, is a FCCLA Advisor, culinary arts professional and founded a nationwide barbecue competition around education, family and project based learning using barbecue.
He is a huge believer that every high school student in Texas should take a cooking class as part of their high school experience, which is a skill for life, like all FCS classes.
