Hearings set for a tax rate

HUTTO – The Hutto City Council will determine the tax rate after two public hearings next month. Public hearings are set for the council to vote on the proposed tax rate.

HUTTO – The Hutto City Council will determine the tax rate after two public hearings next month.

Public hearings are set for the council to vote on the proposed tax rate. The first hearing will be Thursday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 500 W. Live Oak Street. The second hearing is set for two weeks later, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers.

The proposed tax rate is $0.402114 per $100 valuation. The no-new-revenue tax rate is $0.402114 per $100 valuation and the voter approval tax rate is $0.465251 per $100 valuation.

The no-new-revenue tax rate is the tax rate for the 2023 tax year that will raise the same amount of property tax revenue for the Hutto from the same properties in both the 2022 tax year and the 2023 tax year.

The voter-approval tax rate is the highest tax rate that the city may adopt without holding an election to seek voter approval of the rate.

The proposed tax rate is not greater than the no-new-revenue tax rate. This means that the city is not proposing to increase property taxes for the 2023 tax year.

The proposed tax rate is also not greater than the voter-approval tax rate. As a result, the city is not required to hold an election to seek voter approval of the rate. However, residents may express their support for or opposition to the proposed tax rate by contacting the members of the City Council of at their offices or by attending the public hearings.
