Tigers football to host showdown vs. Johnson City

THRALL – The Tigers varsity football team went on the road and got the job done as Thrall High School thrashed Somerville High School 42-14 in the season opener last week. Thrall has a very tall task this week as they host a very good Johnson City High School team at 7:30 p.m. on Friday for Military Appreciation Night.

This will be a great test to see how much the Tigers have improved from last year following a 3-7 season in 2022 that was plagued by injuries. This year, Thrall has already thrived in just one game with junior quarterback Chance Parker, a dynamic athlete who transferred from Pflugerville High School.

In a nearly flawless first game for the Tigers, Parker threw for 165 yards on 14-of-15 attempts for five touchdowns through the air and also rushed for 78 yards on nine carries.

Thrall senior wide receiver and linebacker Steven Walker had himself an incredible game on both sides of the ball.

Offensively, Walker hauled in six receptions for 76 yards and two touchdowns while also returning an interception for a score on defense.

Tigers junior Landon Gregory caught seven passes for 84 yards and a touchdown with one interception, while senior Breken Proctor had four receptions for 24 yards with an interception of his one to help fuel a dominant performance against the Yeguas.

The Tigers will have their work cut out for them on Friday with Johnson City as the visiting Eagles are coming off a 58-20 dismantling of Comfort High School at home.
