Granger football looks for revenge at Thorndale

GRANGER – The Lions varsity football team scored early and very often last weekend as Granger High School opened its 2023 season at home with a 57-8 demolition of the Hubbard High School Jaguars. With Week 1 out of the way for head coach Stephen Brosch and his squad, the Lions will look to keep it going as Granger travels at 7:30 p.m.

GRANGER – The Lions varsity football team scored early and very often last weekend as Granger High School opened its 2023 season at home with a 57-8 demolition of the Hubbard High School Jaguars.

With Week 1 out of the way for head coach Stephen Brosch and his squad, the Lions will look to keep it going as Granger travels at 7:30 p.m. on Friday to take on Thorndale High School. This is a huge non-district game for both teams, especially after the way the game last year ended. Played in neutral site Taylor last season, the Lions lost a 36-34 heartbreaker in overtime and Granger looks to get even and improve to 2-0.

Despite losing a large core of seniors from the 2022 team that went to the 2A-2 regional finals, the Lions seem to have reloaded with great talent and should be in for yet another run multiple rounds into the playoffs.

In the Granger win over Hubbard last Friday, the Lions ran all over the Jaguars as the team rushed for a combined 278 yards on 26 carries and a whopping eight touchdowns scored on the ground. The defense also suffocated Hubbard and would have gotten the shutout if it wasn’t for one long Jaguars touchdown in the first quarter. With only four carries on offense during the victory, senior running back Jayven Diaz made the most of his opportunities as he rushed for 76 yards and three touchdowns.

Look for this offense led by senior quarterback Chase Edwards to put on a show this Friday in Thorndale against the Bulldogs.
