Local students are taking their mental talent to a Texas-sized contest.
The Taylor High School Academic Decathlon team is heading to state competition in San Antonio for the 18th consecutive year of representing Taylor at the state level. The Taylor scholars returned from the 2022 regional competition in Corpus Christi as the silver medal team overall.
Taylor is ranked third in the state small school division. This year’s curriculum is “Water: A Most Essential Resource.”
Categories and Taylor medal winners are as follows:
• Speech – Samantha McIntire, honors bronze medal; Tristyn Davy, scholastic gold medal with a perfect score; Richard Davis, varsity silver medal;
• Interview – Samantha McIntire, honors gold medal with a perfect score; Tristyn Davy, scholastic gold medal with a perfect score; Gabriella Howell, varsity bronze medal;
• Essay – Tristyn Davy, scholastic bronze medal; Gabriella Howell, varsity gold medal;
• Music – Zane Talavera, honors silver medal; Gabriella Howell and Richard Davis, tie for the varsity bronze medal;
• Art – Zane Talavera, honors gold medal; Tristyn Davy, scholastic silver medal;
• Language and Literature – Gabriella Howell, varsity bronze medal;
• Math – Lluvia Allen-Correa, scholastic gold medal; Richard Davis, varsity gold medal;
• Science — Tristyn Davy, scholastic gold medal; Gabriella Howell, varsity bronze medal;
• Overall winners – Tristyn Davy, scholastic silver medal
Honors team members are senior Samantha McIntire and juniors Zane Talavera and Soryna McIntire. Scholastic team members are senior Tristyn Davy and junior Lluvia Allen-Correa.
Varsity team members are senior Richard Davis and junior Gabriella Howell. Team alternates are freshman Alexandra Rebollar-Cruz and juniors Yahir Cancel and Jett VanBrocklin.
