AUSTIN – Prepare to be captivated by the inspiring journey of filmmaking duo Luke and Martha Van Garza.

Mrs. Van Garza is a former columnist for the Taylor Press – The Girl in the Yellow Sweater – and has served as the emcee for the annual Main Street Car Show.

The couple’s supernatural drama and zombie comedy have garnered national acclaim, smashing age-related stereotypes and redefining creative brilliance. Their artistic journey, reignited by fate after dating 20 years ago, facing long term relationships and widowhood, reuniting to marry shortly after is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance.

Their two short films, Spectral Wind and Pete & Re-Pete, produced after 50, showcase their knack for intricate storytelling and cinematic diversity.

Spectral Wind, a supernatural drama, delves into life after miscarriage and a supernatural encounter, while Pete & Re-Pete, a heartwarming Zombie Comedy, showcases Martha’s directorial prowess. Both films reflect the Van Garzas’ shared experiences and their ability to touch hearts.

Under the Inner Sanctum Films banner, Mr. Van Garza, the screenwriting professor at Austin Community College, creates compelling narratives that blend seamlessly with his wife’s comedy chops and directing finesse, which is a new career path for her. Mrs. VanGarza is the most recent wielder of the O.

Henry International World Championship Pun Off.

Their films will air at the Austin Spotlight Film Festival Sept. 23. The movies will also be viewed at the Austin After Dark, Austin Revolution and Austin Comedy film festivals.

Their films will also play at Mann’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, California, in September as well as Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Ithica, New York.

The couple is currently gearing up for their next film, set to start shooting in October.
