Victor Henry Stern, age 94, passed away Feb. 13, 2022. He was born Sept. 7, 1927, to Charles G.

Stern and Lydia Rapp in Hutto, where he attended school and met his wife, Bertha Louise Anderson. They were married Jan. 10, 1951.

Victor was enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserve and stationed in Victorville, California, during the Korean War.

After the war, the family settled on their farm south of Hutto, which Victor still worked until very recently. In addition to his farm, Victor owned and operated the Hutto Lumber Company until 1978. He managed the Hutto Co-op Gin and Grain until his retirement in 1989.

Victor devoted a large portion of his life to community service. At various times he served on the church council, city council, the gin and grain boards, the school board, the Lion’s Club and chairman of the Chamber of Commerce.

He served with pride for many decades as a volunteer fireman. In 2019, the Hutto Fire Department dedicated the Vic Stern Fire Station #2 in his honor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha; his brother, Carl Stern; and his sister, Elvira “Rusty” Hooper.

Victor is survived by his six children, Vickie Hatt and husband Charles, Jr., Donna Slocum and husband Dennis, William “Bill” Stern, Elaine Stromberg and husband Eric, Karen Beth Knight and husband Rob and Lisa Mohney and husband Brandt. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Hutto Lutheran Church in Hutto.

Burial followed at Hutto Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hutto Lutheran Church building fund.
