GEORGETOWN — Williamson County residents will see a nearly $900 million bond election on their ballots this November.
The Commissioners Court officially approved an order to call the bond election during its meeting Tuesday, Aug. 8.
On the ballot, voters will decide on $825 million for road projects and $59 million for park projects. The vote will take place Nov. 7, and will list both figures as individual propositions.
Approval of the roads bond would allow the court to sell bonds for roads, highways and bridges. Some of the potential projects listed in the proposition would affect Taylor, such as projects on Chandler Road, East Wilco Highway and Corridor A-2.
If the parks bond passes, the court can sell bonds for park and recreational purposes, pedestrian trails and bike trails. One specifically listed Taylor project is putting a cover on the west side of the Williamson County Expo Center.
The approved motion also established unofficial voting stations for the bond election. Taylor will have two locations listed at this current time, Taylor ISD Event Center and Taylor City Hall’s Auditorium.
Those who wish to vote early can do so Oct. 23 to Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding Oct. 29, at any of the county’s full-time locations. Taylor’s listed full-time station for early voting is the auditorium at city hall.
Early voting is available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 2 and Nov. 3.
Estimated interest for the road bonds to be authorized is about $460 million, which brings the total amount required to pay off the road bonds on time and in full to almost $1.3 billion.
Meanwhile, there is an estimated interest of just under $29 million for park bonds. The combined total authorized for the road bonds is $88 million.
The Williamson County Election Commission will meet Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 9:30 a.m. to discuss the position of elections administrator.
