Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Taylor, 305 Mallard Lane, earned a “high performing” recognition for their level of care in pneumonia cases by U.S. News & World Report. The publication issues an annual Best Hospitals report ranking the nation’s medical centers.

“I am proud of our teams at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Taylor for all of their hard work to achieve this recognition.

We take immense pride in providing exceptional care and are delighted that U.S. News & World Report recognizes our efforts. We are proud to be part of the Taylor community and thank our patients for trusting us with their care,” said Tim Tarbell, vice president of operations for the Taylor medical center.

Pneumonia can be fatal, especially among children under age five and older populations, according to the Centers for Disease Control. It is particularly contagious because it can be caused by a variety of bacteria, viruses and fungi, and can be spread through breathing in germs or touching a contaminated surface.

Other than a national ranking, the “high performing” rating is the highest distinction a hospital can earn in this survey.

In the local area, Baylor Scott & White Medical Centers in Austin, Buda, Marble Falls, Pf lugerville, Round Rock/Lakeway and Taylor received the high performing rating for pneumonia care. Round Rock/Lakeway additionally was also named high performing for aortic valve surgery, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure and stroke. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple earned the recognition in cardiology, heart and vascular surgery, gastroenterology & GI surgery, orthopedics and pulmonology/lung surgery.

“Baylor Scott & White Health once again leads the state of Texas in the number of accolades earned in U.S. News & World Report’s 2023-24 Best Hospitals,” states a press release from BSW. “A total of 26 Baylor Scott & White hospitals were recognized, including four facilities with a nationallyranked specialty – more than any other not-forprofit health system in Texas.”

The publication evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 21 procedures and conditions. According to U.S. News, only 12% of evaluated hospitals earned a national Best Hospitals ranking.

BSW hospitals in Dallas (No. 22), Fort Worth (No. 29), Baylor (No. 33) and Plano (No. 40) made the list of best in the nation.

“This recognition affirms our commitment to excellence in delivering safe, high-quality, customer- centric care,” said Pete McCanna, BSW CEO. “Across our health system, our teams are dedicated to making an impact and helping those we serve live well.”

U.S. News says the annual Best Hospitals report, now in its 34th year, is designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive quality care for challenging health conditions.

According to their statement, BSW is the largest not-for-profit health system in Texas, with 51 hospitals and more than 1,200 clinics and offices.
