The six-man season is also upon the city of Taylor as the St. Mary’s Catholic School varsity football team began practice this week in preparation for their upcoming scrimmages.
These players were out practicing hard and disciplined under the scorching hot weather that has continued to hit triple digits across Texas all summer. The St. Mary’s football program is in very good hands with head coach Rick Cobia, who after graduating from Sam Houston State University in 1983 has been involved in football ever since across the state ranging from 3A-6A and now six-man football within the Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship.
This is just the third year as a varsity football program for the Rams after St Mary’s was without tackle football for roughly five decades. After winning just one game in 2021, the Rams paved their way to a solid 5-5 record that saw them make the TCAF playoffs in 2022. St.
Mary’s will look to continue that success to 2023 and that begins with great weeks of practice throughout August.
The Rams will host McDade High School at 9 a.m. on Aug.
12 in the opening scrimmage, travel on Aug. 18 to take on Waco Eagle Christian Academy and then return home to Taylor Memorial Field at 7 p.m. on Aug. 25 to host Wilco Home School.
