Manor New Tech and Round Rock Christian Academy were also in attendance as all four schools got their varsity and junior varsity teams some valuable preseason experience before Aug.

8 has the regular-season openers.

The Lady Ducks and Tigerettes varsity squads went headto- head in the first scrimmage of the morning and although the matches were just 30 minutes and weren’t scored, these two teams went back-and-forth throughout.

Thrall has a rich volleyball history under head coach Bethany Grissom that has been to the state tournament three times (2016, 2020 and 2021) and is coming off a trip to last year’s regional semifinals, while Taylor heads into 2023 with first-year head coach Rylee Davis in hopes of returning to the playoffs following a 2022 bi-district championship season.

The Lady Ducks recently concluded three-day team tryouts on Thursday evening and Davis got a rotation of nine girls on varsity for the first weekend of scrimmages. Taylor will have another home scrimmage against Elgin High School at 12 p.m. on Saturday afternoon following the conclusion of the Duck Day event at The Duck Pond. Taylor varsity volleyball opens its 2023 regular season at 6 p.m. Tuesday night hosting Lampasas High School and Thrall has a home dual that day beginning at 4 p.m. hosting Lago Vista High School followed by Cameron Yoe High School.

The Tigerettes and Lady Ducks were originally supposed to have a regular-season matchup this upcoming week on Aug. 11 in Thrall but instead, the teams are going to play in tournaments.

From Aug. 10-12, Thrall will compete in the Cameron Lady Yoe Varsity Tournament while Taylor will head to the Georgetown Varsity Volleyball Tournament.
