Taylor High School, Hutto High School, Thrall High School and Granger High School varsity volleyball all have a busy week this week with practices and multiple upcoming scrimmages this weekend.
TAYLOR LADY DUCKS
Under first-year head coach Rylee Davis, the Lady Ducks are having volleyball tryouts Aug. 1-3 at the high school gymnasium. Taylor looks to bring back a solid core from last year’s squad that made the area round of the playoffs and ended with an 18-16 record (7-5 in District 22-4A). The Lady Ducks go into a highly anticipated 2023 season with two home scrimmages this weekend: 9 a.m. on Friday vs. Thrall and 12 p.m. on Saturday hosting Elgin High School. Taylor will have its regular-season home opener at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8 as the Lady Ducks host Lampasas High School.
HUTTO LADY HIPPOS
After the conclusion of team tryouts on Aug. 1 for Hutto volleyball, the Lady Hippos have their first sets of preseason scrimmages on Aug. 4 at Pflugerville Connally High School. With head coach Jessica Martinez at the helm, the Lady Hippos made the playoffs in 2022 with a 21-17 record (5-7 in District 12-6A) and a berth in the playoffs. There should be many key returning players for 2023 as Hutto opens the regular season at 6 p.m. on Aug. 8 hosting Georgetown Gateway College Preparatory School.
THRALL TIGERETTES
This is expected to be a huge year for Thrall Tigerettes volleyball under the guidance of head coach Bethany Grissom after the team went 25-13 (8-0 in District 26-2A) and went to the regional semifinals. After its scrimmage in Taylor on Friday, Thrall volleyball will return home that night at 7 p.m. for the Meet the Tigers event held at the football stadium and also have the Thrall Alumni Game on Saturday.
The Tigerettes open the regular season at 4 p.m. on Aug.
8 hosting Lago Vista High School and Cameron Yoe High School for a dual.
GRANGER LADY LIONS
Following a 2022 season that saw the Lady Lions make the area round of the playoffs, Granger is looking for another strong year in 2023 under head coach Margie Burton despite losing a few key seniors. The Lady Lions (19-16 overall and 4-4 in District 26-2A last year) will have scrimmages starting this weekend as Granger will host Florence High School at 9 a.m. on Aug. 4 and then have its Granger Alumni Game and Co-Ed Tournament beginning at 9 a.m. the following day. Granger opens its 2023 regular season at home at 5 p.m. on Aug. 8 hosting nearby Salado High School.
