GLENDALE, Ariz. – A familiar face has returned to the NFL as former Hutto High School and Sam Houston State University star wide receiver Davion Davis signed with the Arizona Cardinals last week and is currently in training camp with the team.

Davis makes the transition back to the NFL after a recent stint with the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL. He helped the team win the championship last month in which he caught the game’s first touchdown from quarterback Alex McGough, who signed with the Green Bay Packers.

As a senior during the 2014 season for Hutto, Davis was quite an incredible wide receiver for the Hippos as he helped lead them to an 11-3 record, a berth in the 5A regional finals and was an all-state honorable mention. Davis had 73 catches for 1,259 yards and a whopping 18 receiving touchdowns while also rushing for 353 yards and six scores on the ground.

He continued his playing career at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville and was a standout player for the Bearkats.

Over the course of the 2015-18 seasons at SHSU, Davis had himself a great four-year career for the Bearkats with 226 catches, 3,181 yards receiving and 40 touchdown receptions.

He was the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2017 as a junior and was also firstteam all-conference as a wide receiver, all-purpose player and punt returner for SHSU.

Davis will have his opportunity to make the Cardinals’ 53-man roster or practice squad at training camp in Arizona and has NFL experience as an undrafted free agent in 2019 with the Minnesota Vikings, in 2021 with the Cleveland Browns and in 2021-22 with the Houston Texans.
