Michelle’s Hot Peep Beat CC 5K/1K charity fun run is back in Murphy Park.

This is the sixth year for this event, which benefits the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, supporting those with this disease, as well as bringing awareness to this insidious, silent killer.

“Our first race in 2017 was extremely successful with over 100 seniors, adults, teens and little kids participating,” said John M. McDonald on behalf of the race committee.

In 2019, the race had over 180 participants. The following year was virtual. In 2020, the race was virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and more than 80 people participated in the event.

This year, the race will be held Saturday, Aug. 12. Packet pickup is 6:30 a.m. at the pavilion in Murphy Park, Twelfth and Vance St with race start time 7:30 a.m.

The course will start in front of the pavilion in Murphy Park, follow the Hike ‘n Bike trail and extend across Mallard Lane. The return route will utilize the other part of the Hike ‘n Bike trail finishing at the original starting point. This is a chiptimed 5K Fun Run/ Walk and Kids’ Dash.

Entry fee to the race is $25 for 19 and older, $15 for 18 and under and the Sleepwalker division.

For teams of four members, the cost is $23 per person.

All proceeds will help The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, CCF, the leading global CC nonprofit, to fund research to find a cure and improve the quality of life for CC patients. This race is also in honor of Michelle McDonald who was taken at age 47 following a fivemonth battle with this disease. Michelle’s grim diagnosis came as a complete shock, providing no warning signs. The reality is, the “what we could do” was limited and disheartening.

Kona Ice will again provide free snow cones and Michael Craig be the MC and supply music.
