GRANGER – Granger Independent School District is wrapping up summer activities as the Lions and Lady Lions prepare for the fall sports season.
LIONS YOUTH FOOTBALL
For incoming first through ninth graders, young Lions came out to play on July 25-27 for the annual three-day youth football camp with well over 40 kids on the first day. The Granger football program continues to grow and the future is bright with athletic director and head football coach Stephen Brosch.
Under Brosch and his talented coaching staff, Lions varsity football is set to have its first day of practice at 7 a.m. on Monday and have full contact with pads on Aug. 5. Following road scrimmages at 6 p.m. on Aug. 11 against Dawson High School and 6 p.m. on Aug. 17 versus Frost High School, the Lions will have their home opener at 7 p.m. on Aug.
25 when Granger hosts Hubbard High School.
LADY LIONS YOUTH VOLLEYBALL Granger girls athletics concluded their summer camps on July 25-27 as the Lady Lions hosted its annual three-day youth volleyball camp at the Granger High School gymnasium. With head coach Margie Burton at the helm of Granger volleyball, the Lady Lions also had over 40 girls in attendance for a great youth camp.
Lady Lions varsity volleyball will have scrimmages starting this upcoming week as Granger will host Florence High School at 9 a.m. on Aug. 4 and then have its Alumni Game and Co-Ed Tournament beginning at 9 a.m. the following day. Granger opens its 2023 regular season at home at 5 p.m. on Aug. 8 hosting nearby Salado High School.
GRANGER CROSS COUNTRY It was a very productive first day of practice on July 28 as Granger cross country under head coach Shelby Johnson was out at 6 a.m. putting in work. The Lions and Lady Lions will continue to have practice over the next few weeks bright and early, have picture day on Aug. 18 and then Granger will take part in its first meet of the 2023 season on Aug. 19 at Mud Sweat and Cheer event hosted by Caldwell High School.
