HUTTO – Hippos youth football and Lady Hippos youth volleyball both hosted camps this week as Hutto Independent School district will transition from summer into the fall sports season.
HIPPOS YOUTH FOOTBALL For incoming third through ninth graders, the Hippos got to take the field at Hutto Memorial Stadium on July 24-26 for the annual three-day youth football camp.
It was a great turnout for the Hutto football program as campers got to work with the Hippos’ coaching staff with plenty of drills and conditioning.
Expect big things as the future is very bright for Hutto football with the program under the helm of Hippos’ varsity football head coach Will Compton and his staff. Freshman football is scheduled to begin practice this Monday, junior varsity and varsity under UIL rules will begin practice on Aug. 7 and be able to have full-contact practice on Aug. 12. Hippos varsity football will have its first scrimmage at 7 p.m. on the road at Austin Vandegrift High School and will have its regular-season opener at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 at home vs. San Marcos High School.
LADY HIPPOS YOUTH VOLLEYBALL
Hutto girls youth athletics concluded summer sessions this week with the annual two-day volleyball camp July 24-25 under Lady Hippos volleyball head coach Jessica Martinez and her coaching staff.
There were two camps as the girls were broken up into third through fifth graders and sixth through eighth graders.
Martinez was very pleased with the turnout for the youth camp and also had high school team camp on July 27-28 as the Lady Hippos are scheduled to have volleyball tryouts beginning on Monday with the first tryout session for ninth through 12th graders beginning at 6 a.m.
Once the teams are finalized, Lady Hippos varsity volleyball has its first scrimmages on Aug.
4 at Pflugerville Connally High School and the 2023 regular- season opener at 6 p.m. on Aug.
8 as Hutto hosts Georgetown Gateway College Preparatory.
