The 2023 Tyler Excellence Award for the implementation of Enterprise Jury Manager belongs to Williamson County.

The Williamson County District Clerk’s Office and Technology Services Department won the award, which was sponsored by Tyler Technologies, and were recognized by the Commissioners Court at their meeting on July 18.

The office staff received the honor due to its use of the system dating back to December 2020. The courts were facing challenges posed by the coronavirus, while also still needing to continue to schedule jury trials.

“Online jury has been a topic for many years and during the COVID pandemic, we had to move into a more efficient way to safely serve the citizens and judiciary,” said Lisa David, Williamson County district clerk. “In the past we were unable to communicate changes to the jury, only to have them drive to the Justice Center to be told their service is not needed.”

The system allows the courts to qualify potential jurors before they arrive at the courthouse.

Since only the qualified jurors selected to appear must be paid, the system saves the county thousands of dollars each year. Previously, the county paid the 200 to 300 people who came for jury selection each week.

“We are saving the county money and citizens time if they are not needed prior to showing up for jury,” David said.

Tyler Technologies’ system handles the jury management system for 15 courts.
