GEORGETOWN – Williamson County residents are currently restricted from outdoor burning.

Due to severe drought and dry conditions, the Commissioners’ Court approved a county-wide burn ban at its meeting Tuesday, July 18. The ban began immediately at noon and can last

up to 90 days. The ban comes from a recommendation from the Williamson County Fire Marshal’s Office, who studied the county’s condition from July 10-14.

It was determined that 100% of the county is classified by the United States Drought Monitor Scale as D2, severe drought.

There is minimum precipitation forecasted, meaning there is not enough rain to adequately reverse the drying trend.

Judge Bill Gravell has the authority to lift the burn ban if conditions improve.
