July is already coming to an end as Taylor High School varsity football is less than two weeks away from putting on the pads and helmets again.
Taylor athletic director and head football coach Earven Flowers put out an announcement last week for Ducks football players, their families and the community with some important upcoming dates regarding the program.
Weight training and non-contact practices will continue as normal throughout the rest of the month before there is a mandatory parents’ meeting at 6 p.m. on July 27 at the high school cafeteria. Flowers will introduce the coaching staff, discuss the full practice schedule, outline player expectations, program policies and the recruiting process among other things.
“Remember that you will need to provide your own football shoes,” Flowers said. “Football shoes need to be black, white, green, gray or any combination of these. This year, instead of ordering from Taylor Sporting Goods, you can purchase your workout gear from us. The workout gear will cost $25. This is required workout gear for all athletes.”
Before the first day of practice in helmets and pads on July 31, a physical for each individual athlete must be on file with the athletic department. Forms that must be submitted prior to the first day of practice via Rank One Sport include medical history, emergency contact, cardiac arrest awareness, concussion acknowledgment, rules acknowledgment and steroid use.
Taylor will also have Duck Day from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Aug. 5 at Taylor Stadium. During the practice, Taylor will have Burgers with the Band, announcements from the Taylor Athletic Booster Club, TEE Foundation, a Senior Cake Raffle, box raffles, the cheer and dance teams performing, an introduction to band officers, volleyball, tennis and cross country teams.
Taylor will have its first varsity football scrimmage at 6 p.m. on Aug. 11 as the Ducks are set to host Cameron Yoe High School.
