Due to unsafe driving conditions during construction, County Road 366 will be closed to through traffic until early next summer, officials said.
“I would like to have (Public Works Director) Jim (Gray) come and provide some breaking news about County Road 366,” said City Manager Brian LaBorde at the July 13 meeting of the Taylor City Council.
“As you are aware, it is being reconstructed, but due to the existing road surface, in collaboration with the county, we felt it was best that we were going to have to look at providing controlled access, almost just closing it off with the exception of residents.”
Last November, representatives of the City of Taylor joined Williamson County and Texas Department of Transportation representatives to break ground on the $17.6 million road-widening project on CR 366 between Chandler Road and Carlos G. Parker Blvd on the northwest side of the city.
The project, which should be completed by next June, is being funded with voterapproved 2019 Road Bonds, as well as $200,000 from the City of Taylor.
“I totally agree with this,” said District 4 Councilman Robert Garcia at the meeting. “I was out on 366 the other day, and it was very crowded. The road is very rough, and we can’t keep patching it every other week.”
Gray said the city has received a number of complaints from residents about the road’s condition during the last 60 days “As construction goes on, and we are seeing increased traffic on the road, we do not think we can keep the road safe continually throughout the project,” Gray said. “County and city representatives have been meeting, and a decision has been made by the county, and we are in total agreement with it, to put a closure on County Road 366 between Chandler and Carlos Parker.”
However, Gray said homeowners should have “very limited” access.
“Right now, we anticipate this beginning on July 24,” he said. “We will put back up the message boards saying no through trucks for (Texas) 95 at Carlos Parker light there,” he said. “For right now, we think this is the safest way to go.”
Gray said the road will remain closed until the project is completed, which is expected to be in June 2024.
