If local forecasts hold, Taylor could have the most consecutive days of 100-degree temperatures in 12 years.

The Taylor Texas Weather Network recorded highs from 100 to 104 degrees July 10-13. At press time, Taylor’s forecast called for temperatures of 101-103 from this past Friday through Thursday, July 14-20. The potential 11-day streak of triple digit highs would break 2019’s nine-day run and going back through 2010.

“There is an increased risk for heat-related illness for those spending extended time outdoors and not taking precautions,” the National Weather Service Austin/ San Antonio Office said. “Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories (were) in effect through Friday, and additional Heat (advisories) are likely to persist through the weekend into next week.”

NOAA data shows the next most recent year with consecutive triple-digit highs was 2011, which was 26 days. In total, Taylor experienced approximately 75 days at 100 degrees or hotter.

Despite extreme heat indexes, this summer’s mercury hasn’t risen as high as last year. On July 10, 2022, Taylor peaked at 106.8 degrees. Last year tied 2011 with five consecutive days at or more than 104 degrees.

As for this week, warm winds are expected to accompany the heat wave. South winds should range 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph at least through Monday, July 17. Lows will be in the mid to upper 70s Area storms have left Taylor dry this month, and no rain is projected this week as Taylor is expected to have sunny skies. The Taylor Texas Weather Network recorded 0.2 inches in June spread over three days.
