DICKEY MUSEUM GRANTED FIRST STEP IN IN REBUILD

On Monday, July 10, the one-year anniversary of the destruction of the home of Dr. James Lee Dickey, a grant was awarded to ensure the legacy of Dickey lives on.

The St. David’s Foundation awarded $500,000 to reconstruct a replica of the Dickey home, which will become a museum and multipurpose center. According to Jennifer Harris, president of the Dickey Museum and Multipurpose Center, Preservation Texas will help with a Capital Campaign to raise the remaining funds to complete the building.

According to Harris, the home was in the final stages of renovation and was targeted to open in July 2023. After the fire, plans are to have the newly built replica complete for June 19, 2024, Juneteenth, and an opening is being planned for sometime between July and November of next year.

BODY FOUND IDENTIFIED AS MISSING MAN

On Monday, July 10, Taylor detectives received confirmation that the body found last is the Taylor man who has been missing since June 20.

Fingerprint comparison done by Hill Country Forensics matched the body to that of Adrian Zachary, 45, of Taylor. A final autopsy, including toxicology results, is still pending.

On Thursday, July 6, officers were called at 9:54 p.m. to the 600 block of Gravel Pit Road after a nearby property owner spotted an opening in the cornfield that appeared as if someone had entered it.

Preliminary indications have revealed no trauma and nothing suspicious was found at the scene, officers said.

TAYLOR PRESS 3-ON-3 TOURNEY A HUGE SUCCESS IN 10TH YEAR

The 10th annual Taylor Press 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament was held on July 8–9 at Taylor High School with 19 teams in the 18-and-older division, six squads in the 11–14 division and the Shining Stars special needs group playing on Sunday at the end of the action.

In the 18 and older division, Snipe Squad Reloaded was led by Jon Warren, B.J. Tealer, Cordez Maddox and Gregory Whitaker with Warren taking home the tournament Most Valuable Player award for his white-hot shooting from three-point range.

In the 11-14 division, The Lightning Bombers were led by Markell Fitzgerald, Paulo Torres, Aiden James and Davian Tellez with Fitzgerald winning MVP for his clutch baskets down the stretch of the championship game.
