At the Taylor City Council meeting on July 13, as the city designated July as Parks and Recreation Month, Parks and Recreation Director Tyler Bybee recognized the 6U Ducks All-Star team of the Taylor Area Baseball And Softball League, which recently was named 2023 Pony League Regional Champions and are headed to the league’s World Series July 23 in Youngsville, Louisiana.

“I brought the cuteness with us today,” Bybee said before introducing Coach Louis Jahn. “Good luck, and go get ‘em.”

Jahn said the youngsters play in the city’s recreational league yearround but were selected as all-stars from the different teams to go out and play other area towns in tournaments over the summer.

“I pulled this team together in two weeks, and we went to a director’s tournament, and they won first place,” Jahn said. “We went to a sectional tournament, and they had to fight back from a loser’s bracket, but they ended up winning first place again. Then, we went to a regional tournament, and they went undefeated and ended up winning that one as well.”

Jahn said the next step for these all-stars is a World Series tournament facing 20 6U teams coming in from a group of southeastern states from New Mexico to Florida.

“They are going to have some really tough competition, but they have been working really hard,” Jahn said. “I can’t say enough about that. They have been practicing three or four nights a week, and every one of these guys shows up and plays their hearts out, so it has been awesome, but that’s our story.”
