Lady Hippos fall short against Timberwolves

Hailee Sanchez celebrates after her home run in Tuesday night’s game against Cedar Park.

The Hutto Lady Hippos softball team battled hard but failed to overtake the Cedar Park Lady T-wolves in Tuesday night's road game falling 7-5.

After spotting Cedar Park a 3-0 lead early in the game the Lady Hippos had their biggest inning of the night scoring three runs of their own to tie the contest. Isabella Paez led off with a single to get things going for Hutto. Lea Bullock then reached base via an error by the pitcher. Ali Fields stepped up and doubled to break the Lady Hippos into the scoring column as Paez crossed home. Kylee Kreis then sent a shot to right field sending both Bullock and Fields home to tie the game at 3-3.

Cedar Park then stepped up their defense to halt the Lady Hippos rally.

The Lady Timberwolves then added two more runs in the third to reclaim the lead 5-3.

After Hutto went down one, two, three in the fourth Cedar Park added another run to double up on the Lady Hippos 6-3.

In the Hutto fifth, Hailee Sanchez restored the Lady Hippos hopes with a line drive over the left-field fence closing the gap to 6-4.

Cedar Park got the run back in the fifth inning at 7-4.

In the Lady Hippos seventh Fields tripled to lead off the inning and would come in to score on a Kreis groundout to cut the lead to 7-5. That would be all the offense Hutto would muster as the game came to a close.

Ali Fields and Hailee Sanchez each finished 2-for-4 for Hutto with both girls doubling. Sanchez had the home run and Fields a triple. Taryn Ballard pitched most of the contest striking out four in the loss.
