The Lady Ducks used a five-run fourth inning to erase a Round Rock-Westwood 4-1 lead last Tuesday, Feb.22. Taylor scored two more runs in the contest and held the 6A Lady Warriors to just one run in the second half of the game to come away with an 8-5 victory.
The Lady Warriors used their bats to open the contest, getting six singles in the first inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead over the Lady Ducks.
The Lady Ducks defense held the Lady Warriors in check not allowing another run through the middle innings.
In the Taylor third inning, the Lady Ducks finally scored. Kennan Nunamaker and Mackenzie Watson led off with singles. Kayshawna Fields pinch ran for Nunamaker. A walk to Lindsay O’Dell loaded the bases as Maci Kennick came on to run for O’Dell.
Alyssa Ortiz then grounded a ball back to the pitcher driving home Taylor’s first run of the game, denting the Westwood lead to 4-1.
After a quiet fourth inning by Westwood, the Lady Ducks went on the offensive. Emma Whitsel singled followed by a Kennan Nunamaker single that drove the speedy Whitsel home cutting the lead in half 4-2. Watson then walked.
O’Dell then singled to send Watson home trimming the lead to one at 4-3. With Ortiz at the plate, O’Dell would steal second. An infield single by Ortiz sent O’Dell home tying the game at 4-4.
Kayleigh Page then drew a walk followed by A’ja Lucas who reached on an infield single scoring both Page and Ortiz opening up for a 6-4 Taylor lead.
Allison Ortega singled sending Lucas to third base as the bats quieted.
A solo home run in the sixth inning would be Westwood’s final run.
After drawing a walk, Kennick came on to run again for O’Dell. Lucas then singled to send Kennick home. Ortega then singled driving home Lucas for the Lady Ducks' final score of the night.
On the night the Lady Ducks tallied 12 hits. Lindsay O’ Dell struck out 16 upping her season strikeout count to 36 as Taylor improved to 2-1. This past weekend the Lady Ducks traveled to play in the Rusk Tournament.
