The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until noon Thursday, Feb. 24,
"Freezing rain expected (with) total ice accumulations of a light glaze on elevated surfaces (is possible in) portions of south central Texas north of line from Carta Valley to Leon Springs to Giddings," said the NWS in the advisory "Very slippery overpasses, bridges and elevated walkways are possible. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening or morning commute. Light icing will be possible on elevated surfaces mainly tonight, but could begin this afternoon in the northern part of the advisory area."
Drivers are advised to slow down and use caution while traveling and prepare for possible power outages. The latest road conditions for the state can be obtained at http://www.drivetexas.org.
That said, projections on this week's local winter weather remains less impactful than three weeks ago. The Taylor Texas Weather Network forecasts a 40-60% chance of at least rain Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 23-24. Beginning Wednesday night, precipitation could include freezing rain going into Friday morning, Feb. 25, or longer for anyone with weekend plans to the west.
“There is a potential for a wintry mix of freezing rain or sleet during the nighttime into morning hours Wednesday night through Saturday (Feb. 26) mainly across the Edwards Plateau (and) Hill Country into central Texas, though possibly as far south as U.S 90,” said the National Weather Service (NWS) Austin/San Antonio Office.
As of predictions Tuesday, Feb. 22, this week’s local precipitation shouldn’t compare to the winter storm earlier this month. Taylor recorded 1/10 inch of ice Feb 3-4 during the storm, which shut down much of the area.
Either way, a cloudy, rainy rest of the week is ahead for Taylor. Winds will be from the north at 15-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph through Saturday
“Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible across eastern areas on Wednesday,” said the NWS. “Then, periods of light rain are expected Wednesday through early Sunday (Feb. 27).”
Temperatures will also be a huge shift from Tuesday’s high in the 80s. A cold front moved in overnight and shouldn’t let Wednesday get above 42 degrees before dropping to 36 in the afternoon and a freezing 29 degrees at night. Thursday has a high of 39 degrees and another low of 29 degrees.
Friday has a 20% chance of precipitation with a high in mid 40s and then should stay above freezing at night in the mid 30s. Saturday has 50% chance of regular rain with a high near 50 degrees and low in the upper 30s.
Sunday has a small chance of rain in the morning before becoming mostly sunny. Highs should be in the lower 60s with a low around 35 degrees. For more weather,
