An area organization is looking at Taylor as a place to help businesses network and make new connections.
On Thursday, Feb. 24, businesses are invited to participate in the Taylor Business Fair from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fannie Robinson Park, 260 S. Dolan St. in Taylor. The event is hosted by The Greater Taylor Chamber of Commerce and National Association of Minority Contractors (NAMC) Greater Austin Chapter.
“This event is designed to help them get linked into networks that can help them grow their businesses,” said Tia Stone, chamber president. “It is really the work of Sam Blango with the National Association of Minority Contractors, a member of our Chamber, and we are happy to support him in this work.”
The goal of the event is to establish opportunities for local businesses, trade partners and suppliers, especially entities that are local or small and owned by minorities or women.
“Construction and supply businesses owned by women or racial and ethnic minorities sometimes don’t have the access that they need to get and stay informed about opportunities for their businesses,” Stone said. “This event is a first step in giving our local HUBs (historically underutilized businesses) an opportunity to network and learn how they can participate with bigger construction companies.”
Stone said companies sometimes need HUBs on their partner lists in order to get bigger contracts, especially with governmental agencies.
“These partnerships are a win-win,” she said.
The business fair is also being hosted as a tribute to Black History Month.
