An analysis of Taylor crime will take center stage at Thursday’s council meeting.

On Feb. 24, the Taylor City Council is set to receive a crime report and update on police activity from 2021. Chief of Police Henry Fluck will present the data.

Focuses on critical police activity such as arrests, calls for service, traffic stops and clearance rates will be part of the update. The information has also been submitted to the FBI’s National Based Incident Reporting System (NIBRS).

Fluck recently discussed crime rates in the city during the Taylor Press’ “Taylor Talk with Jason Hennington” on the newspaper’s Facebook page Monday, Feb. 14. In addresding the conception that crime is “way up” in the city, Fluck said overall crime in Taylor has been reduced.

“There are certain crimes that are up, … because we had the murders from last year,” said Fluck. “We are continuing working to address crime in the community and hopefully we continue to do so,” said Fluck.

In other business, the council is scheduled to:

• hold a public hearing and introduce an ordinance in regards to a change of zoning on approximately 40.18 acres located at the northeast corner of North Drive and Carlos G. Parker Boulevard from single-family residential zoning to approximately 10.76 acres of local business zoning with a commercial planned development overlay and approximately 29.42 acres of single-family residential zoning with a residential planned development overlay;

• hold a public hearing and introduce an ordinance regarding a change-of-zoning request on approximately 0.287 acres of land at 205 East Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd from light industrial zoning to multi-family residential zoning;

• receive an update on downtown bondfunded improvements and consideration of an award of bid for the downtown landscaping project; and

• consider to award the bid for the hardscape construction of a percussion park.

The council meeting will commence at 6 p.m. at city hall, 400 Porter St., in the council chamber. Those who wish to share their thoughts and comments, which are limited to three minutes, should sign up no later than 5:45 p.m.

The council agenda and live video stream of the meeting can be found on the city website at http://www.taylortx.gov.
