Residents and business owners who need materials to patch alleyways and private property can receive them this Saturday.

The city of Taylor announced July 1, as Street Millings Day, and will pass out street millings supplies from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Taylor Fire Field, located off East MLK Jr. Boulevard.

The opportunity is offered by the Taylor Public Works Department, which will have staff members present to help load the supplies.

The process of milling essentially removes the top layer of asphalt in order to resurface driveways, roads and parking lots. Millings can be used to fix cracks and potholes on streets and allow for a new even layer of asphalt.

In order to receive the supplies, residents or business owners need to provide their driver’s license and a water bill from the city. Vehicles picking up street millings must have an enclosed area to transport loose materials, meaning no flat trailers will be allowed. Participants must also fill out a Street Milling Waiver and Release Agreement, which will be available on-site, at the Public Works office or can be downloaded online.

The city said it is not responsible for potential damages to vehicles or trailers that occur during the loading process, and will not begin placing materials into the vehicles until the waiver has been signed.

Street millings will be limited to two cubic yards per resident or business.
