Greater Taylor gets first big gift

The Greater Taylor Foundation, a new nonprofit organization in Taylor that is designed to pool community resources together, received a surprise announcement at its ribbon cutting event Monday, June 26.

“A lot of people talk about change,” said Amy Merida, the Executive Director of the Central Texas Community Foundation. “The Greater Taylor Foundation is here to do something about it.”

Ed Komandosky, member of the Greater Taylor Foundation’s Board of Directors, announced a $1,000,000 donation to the Greater Taylor Foundation. The donation comes from the John Wehby estate.

Before his death in 2018, Wehby left Komandosky as the administer of his estate. At the ribbon cutting ceremony, which was hosted by the Taylor Chamber of Commerce and held at the Taylor Mansion, Komandosky presented the check to Board Chair Diana Phillips.

“I think this is a wise decision and one that not only will benefit the whole community, but one that John would be very proud of,” Komandosky said. “I’m more than happy to do this.”

The donation and ribbon cutting came on the same day as the first of Impact Taylor’s focus groups. Impact Taylor, a Greater Taylor Foundation initiative, looks to gather intel on Taylor’s needs through discussions with the community and then create a report based on its findings.

GTF will then use the data to determine where to direct its resources and efforts. Around 35 residents attended the first focus group, which was held at the Taylor Public Library.
